Meet Vivian Sweetheart Bishop-Cook, MAC, LPC, CS-I
Owner ~ Therapist ~ Clinical Supervisor ~ Relationship Advocate
Hello and welcome — I’m Vivian Cook, Owner and Licensed Professional Counselor/Therapist at Cook Counseling & Therapy. And yes, my middle name really is “Sweetheart”.
With more than 20 years in social services and over a decade in private practice, I feel deeply honored to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges, relationships, healing, and personal growth. My approach to counseling is warm, collaborative, and grounded in both clinical experience and genuine human connection.
“I believe meaningful therapy should feel both supportive and productive — a space where you feel heard (never judged), challenged (with a little Texas twang), encouraged (you got this!), and empowered (but what if you fly?) to move toward healthier relationships, greater clarity, and lasting emotional wellness.”
Areas of Focus
I work with clients navigating a wide range of concerns including relationship struggles, mental health challenges, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, addiction recovery, and the lasting impact of difficult experiences. I also support individuals and families affected by addictions involving alcohol, substances, gambling, pornography, and nicotine. My work is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and focused on helping clients build insight, strengthen coping skills, improve communication, and create meaningful, lasting change. We usually even have a little fun along the way!

Couples Counseling and Relationship Support
I also have a passion for working with couples who feel stuck in cycles of disconnection, conflict, communication struggles, or emotional distance. Whether couples are preparing for marriage, rebuilding trust, navigating life transitions, or simply wanting to strengthen their relationship, I strive to create a supportive and structured space where both individuals feel heard, understood, and equipped with practical tools for meaningful change. My approach incorporates evidence-based methods including Prepare & Enrich, Gottman-informed strategies, and emotionally focused interventions tailored to each couple’s unique relationship dynamics.
As someone who comes from a long line of service members — including my husband, who retired after serving 22 years in the military, and our four sons who have served across three military branches — I have deep personal and professional respect for the sacrifices, resilience, and unique experiences of military life. It is a privilege to support service members, veterans, and their families with care that is both informed and understanding.
For clients who wish to incorporate their spiritual beliefs into the counseling process, I also offer faith-inclusive counseling as an option. Together, we can thoughtfully integrate your values, faith, and personal beliefs into the healing process in a way that feels authentic and supportive to you. And if faith is not part of your journey, that is completely okay too — our work together will always center around what matters most to you.
Mentorship for Emerging Clinicians
Because great clinicians deserve great supervision!
As a Wisconsin DSPS Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor, I also provide supervision for LPC-ITs seeking a supportive, growth-oriented environment as they develop their clinical skills and professional identity. Drawing from more than two decades in social services, over a decade in private practice, and years of leadership and mentoring experience, I offer a top-tier supervision and mentorship experience that emphasizes clinical excellence, ethical practice, professional confidence, and real-world preparation for independent licensure. We even have some fun along the way.
My goal is to help emerging clinicians feel supported, appropriately challenged, and equipped to provide exceptional care to the clients and communities they serve. Supervisees benefit from comprehensive clinical guidance, individualized professional development, and the opportunity to learn within a growing private practice setting. Together, we identify your strengths, interests, and long-term goals while creating opportunities to build competence and confidence in the areas that matter most to you.
For those who desire it, additional opportunities may include involvement in groups, workshops, classes, community outreach initiatives, speaking engagements, and other professional development experiences. My goal is not simply to help you earn hours toward licensure —it's to help you develop into a confident, highly trained, well-rounded clinician prepared for a successful and sustainable career. I feel honored and privileged to be able to pay forward to the next generation the amazing mentoring I have received personally and professionally.
While clinical excellence and ethical practice are at the heart of my supervision approach, I also believe that growth happens through genuine connection. I strive to create a supportive and approachable environment where supervisees feel comfortable asking and answering questions, exploring challenges, celebrating successes, and occasionally sharing a laugh (tears are welcome, too). One of my guiding philosophies is simple: You don't work for me—I work for you. My role is to support your growth, invest in your development, and help you become the GREAT clinician you aspire to be.
